Al,
The idea that Mercedes are expensive to own is a myth.   I've owned my two
for a total of 25 years and all the service they require is simple fluid and
filter changes.   They go to a dealer once every 30K to have the
transmissions serviced.    I've had one repair problem...prematurely worn
alternator brushes.

Dealer maintenance costs are about the same for any make.   Parts are
expensive but seldom break.

Insurance costs are more related to driving records and the state you live
in.   The insurance on my cars is probably cheaper than most people pay for
Accords.

With most cars, you're forced to buy a new one every few years.   With a
Mercedes, Leica, Miele appliance or any other world class product you can
keep on using and maintaining it as long as you are happy with what it does.

Actually, the point I'm trying to make is that people never look beyond
initial cost.   Best Buys are usually lousy investments.
