If you survive, and I'm not saying you will, someone will surely steal your Leica. On the other hand, using the same common sense you would use in any other city will provide adequate prophylaxis. Naturally, I want to bring a subset of my Leica stuff and prowl Manhattan with my M6 (given the high current value of the dollar, shopping is not interesting, although I may pay a visit to Tamarkin).
