Subject: [Leica] Leica article in the Bangkok Post

Greetings all,

In today's Bangkok Post there is an article about the plans and hopes of
Leica Camera for the Thai and Southeast Asian markets as the clouds lift
from these economies. Leica Camera AG expects to its annual sales in the
region to double to six million Deutschmarks in 2001. Leica has also
appointed Hong Kong based Jebsen & Jessen as the distributor for cameras,
lenses and other products in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and
Brunei. As the excise tax on imported cameras and lenses was reduced from
a high of 30% down to %, Jebsen & Jessen are expecting that Thailand would
represent 30 - 40% of all regional sales.

Perhaps it is time to check out the prices on a new 35mm Summicron ASPH
while my 50mm Summilux is in for a CLA.

Cheers,

Ian Stanley,

Bangkok, Thailand
