Leica Camera AG expects to its annual sales in the region to double to six million Deutschmarks in 2001. Leica has also appointed Hong Kong based Jebsen & Jessen as the distributor for cameras, lenses and other products in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Brunei. As the excise tax on imported cameras and lenses was reduced from a high of 30% down to %, Jebsen & Jessen are expecting that Thailand would represent 30 - 40% of all regional sales. Perhaps it is time to check out the prices on a new 35mm Summicron ASPH while my 50mm Summilux is in for a CLA. Cheers, Ian Stanley, Bangkok, Thailand
