Subject: [Leica] nikons new "noctilux"... ;-)

hi leicafans,

in the newest edition of "nikon pro" (europe) they present a new lens,
which could be the new "king of the night" instead of the noctilux... ;-)

nikon promisses benefits for handheld telephotography in low-light with
the new AF VR zoom-nikkor 80-400 mm f 4,5 - 5,6 D ED, which offers build
in "vibration reduction" VR (like some canon lenses before).

according to nikon, hand-held photography with exposure times three steps
slower will be successfull with this technology (i.e. you can use 1/8 sec.
instead of 1/60 sec. without VR...)

this is factor 8, what will offer a "virtual wide open performance" of
arround 1:2 ... (what is, admittedly, again factor 4 away from the real
"king of the night", the noct...)

regards, thomas böhm, imst / austria
