Using a Leica was the key. As we all know, it is very unintrusive, and subjects were often unaware of the camera at all. If I were using a motor-driven Nikon F2, I certainly would have been thrown out of the hospital. You do notice that there were no shots of the moment of birth. There was no way I could taken any photographs then, as my wife was holding onto me so tightly.
