Don,

Take away the back plate from the camera. Inside it, on both sides of the film pressure plate are small screws. Remove these, and then you can slide the plate sideway-up so it gets loose from the spring that holds it. Behind that, you will find screws, holding the film speed dial. Unscrew these, and you are done.
Replacement leatherette is a part that can be ordered from a Leica photo store. Just remove the old leatherette, clean a little, and attach the new leatherette (it is pre-glued).
