My rules are never expose TMY at anything faster than 400. It looks horrible
underexposed. Tri-X seems to be much more forgiving, but both films do their
best work for me exposed around 320. Xtol will give you more underexposure
latitude (about 1 stop) than most other developers... for overexposure
latitude I reckon 2 stops is about the max, unless you go to a split
developer or something like dilute D23.
I think the developer is at least if not more significant than the film.
