I can see it now: photographers, amazed at the much-lower cost of
equipment made in the camera-manufacturing backwaters of Europe flock in
particular to products bearing a funny name: Leica! Overcoming decades
of resistance, German electronic cameras are finally accepted as being
the equal of The Nikon. Years later, the Nikon F8, virtually identical
to the F5, generates fierce loyalty among the lucky few who can afford
it's steep purchase price, though staunch traditionalists gravitate
towards the polycarbonate-and-magnesium F5 and F6. Everyone else [ie
those not gifted with trust funds and stock options] buys Leicas and
Zeiss Contaxes.

Stranger things happen all the time!
