The meter in a F4 is pretty bright and is does render much in the viewfinder as not visible in that sort of lighting. Besides, I'm not sure I could have avoided it if I'd seen it anyway (apart from the brain clicking and removing the UVA filter). I took all of these shots to my local Pro shop - It had all of them stumped. Collectively they,ve got ~100 times the photo exp that I have. They forwarded the slide to Leica Aust - who also weren't sure. Leica Germany came back with an answer about the same time that I tested UVA filter on and off.
