This thread is kind of funny. A short while back someone repeated the maxim
that "Leicas are made by jewelers, Contaxes by carpenters." A little ironic.

Let me respond to this.
1) The guy has been there a year. How much time does he need?
2) Herr Cohn's new film products are A) A gold plated M6, B) A black
paint M6, and a R7 for the Japanese market. Does that strick you as
innovative product development with mass appeal?
3) If Herr Cohn is "leading Leica in the right direction" why are
sales in the toilet?
4) If Herr Cohn is "leading Leica in the right direction" why is
Leica Camera stock in the toilet?
5) Herr Cohn came out of the furniture business. He understands
corporate management. But, he has no more idea than a goose about
the wants and need of Leica film customers.
6) Of course he was running around taking pictures with a black
paint M6. What did you expect him to be using?
7) PMA is a show for selling equipment to dealers. Would you expect
the Leica group to be anything but up-beat?

My reply:
You know Sal, deep down in my heart, I think that is 100% pure,
unadulterated, Bull Sh*t. Did you, by chance, ask him how many R8s
have been sold? And, since the Leica people have admitted that they
sell more R6.2s than they do R8s, that makes the R6.2 the largest
selling SLR camera in Leica's history. Come-on. Who's kidding who?
Know, if you TRULY BELIEVE what Herr Cohn told you, I want you to go
out tomorrow morning, take a second mortgage on your house, and buy
Leica Camera stock with that money. I trust you are smarter than
that.
A sales pitch is one thing, but I have no respect for someone (CEO or
otherwise) who stands there and lies to me.
Now, you talked to Herr Cohn, I didn't. But, if what you say is
true, I think these people are getting desperate.
I think the next few months will be very interesting.
