Subject: [Leica] damnit 2! Was: damnit! (lengthy)

Had a second look at the Leica advertisement in Pop Photo December 1999. The C1 looks really, really nice - but the §£%&$§ lens is a 4-10.5/38-105mm. Damnit indeed!
Every now and then I´m tempted to get a point-and-shoot, but the lenses are ridiculous. Firstly they all start at 38mm - not good. And secondly the speed - with present day film you could manage with f:4 but f:10.5 on a Leica is - well - ridiculous.
As far as I know there are only two P/S cameras with 28-90mm lenses, Pentax and Rollei, but they have been around for a long time so obviously there is a market. If a company that is proud of their optical prowess - Leica for instance - would produce a high quality P/S with something like 2.8-4/28-90mm (OK -even 3.5-5.6 would be nice) it would be a hit among the connoisseurs. And Rollei got it all wrong when they divided the focal length into two different cameras - but even these seem to sell, despite high price. And this Rollei is not compact.
All the best!
