Subject: [Leica] Luggers in Ecuador.....

While the strike didn't really materialize while George was here... it has
been picking up steam... Indians are blocking roads outside of the city and
more so in Quito over the last couple of days.... Food is becoming harder
to find and gasoline is expected to run out in the next day or two....

The Indians seized the congress building around 10 am this morning... but
Congress itself was not in session... the leaders declared themselves to be
in power.... an ex-supreme court justice, a coronel and the leader of the
idigenous groups of Ecuador.... But I doubt anyone will give them any more
credibility than the last declaration.... on the other hand with some 5000
to 15,000 indians demonstrating around Quito until the President, Congress
and the Supreme Court resign.... things are only going to get worse....

There is supposed to be a press conference shortly from the real
government...
