While many here argue about his artistic sense, Ansel Adams did more than any other to gain acceptance of photography as an art form. Witness the fact that AA's work commands more $$ than all other fine art photography put together. Erwin mentions the Zone system as technique of the century, which was advocated most forcefully, perhaps originally, from AA. And aside from photography, his work lead Congress to see what they were being asked to protect, and thus was insturmental in the creation of many parks and wilderness areas. Name one other photographer with a mountain and a wilderness area named after him!
