Quite aside from price competition, it was Fuji's aggressive marketing, with very good films, in the US market in the mid-1980s that woke up Kodak and spurred them to introduce some new, very good films of their own, a competition that continues. Without that kind of prod from a competitor, E-6 shooters would still be complaining about the failings of Ektachrome-X.
