While a fluorescent light can take up to 17 minutes to be extinguished
completely thus creating potential fog - or at least reduced contrast, a
cool-white (or better yet daylight-rated) fluorescent light is the best
viewing tool to judge print values.
I have used a cool-white fixture in my darkroom successfully for years by
rigging a blind underneath it to prevent afterglow damage.
