Isn't Philip the person who runs PhotoNet?

What I don't get about sites like this is when I read the public discussion
areas, they often say that everything posted there is under his copyright,
as web owner/developer. This does not make sense to me. If I post
something on that site, as the author, do I not still retain copyright?
How does he get to "own" what others have posted? What is the accepted
copyright standards when something is posted in a public discussion area?

And why should experts on the LUG post on a site like this and then find
that someone else retains rights to the material, and could one day sell
the website for a sizable sum of money.
