It also works if you use the suggested settings on the film box for stage
events and bracket. I've found with TMax 400 the suggestions worked well for
concerts. If you go to Kodak homesite the probably have them reproduced in
the film section for each film they offer.

I've found that a spot meter is vital for stage stuff - either to meter from
the flesh tones or to meter for the detail in shadows.
