However, it also says: Moonrise 4:22 p.m. on preceding day Moon transit 11:42 p.m. on preceding day Moonset 7:06 a.m. Moonrise 5:20 p.m. This means that when the moon sets at 7:06 a.m. it will be 2 1/2 hours shy of full, and when it rises that afternoon at 5:20 pm it will have been full (and thus started waning) for 8 hours. The closest to a full moon that I'll be able to see here in California will be early in the morning of 21/22 December, though it will look awfully full the night of 22/23 December.
