It does focus properly wide open (on my Canon P), but don't get too excited about it - Sonnars have something that could be called "focusing halo" that means gradual and pretty focus dropoff - both from center to edge and from focused subject to objects out of the plane of focus (as opposed to Planars - Summicron - etc - that have pretty harsh dropoff). In my testing, which includes both outdoor shots and projecting negatives through it using my Durst, you get good frame-edge sharpness around 2.8-4. Which is par for the course with Sonnars. It will be a dreamy portrait lens. In a message dated 12/14/99 2:04:53 AM, roland@dnai.com writes: << I recently purchased one and mounted it on my M3 with an adapter ring. My outdoor pictures were sharp. I have not tried wide open but, will do so with my newly acquired test pattern.
