Unsurprisingly, I tend to use Apache a lot (especially given the existence of mod_perl), but I usually run it on Linux (simply because I'm that much more familiar with configuring and securing Linux boxes, and I'm addicted to the Red Hat Package Manager -- I freely acknowledge that the BSDs actually perform slightly better as the OS beneath a webserver than Linux). Lessee. The last major website I helped set up has a stack of Linux/Apache webservers on Proliant 1850Rs behind a Cisco LocalDirector, with a Sun behind those re-rendering the static content 24/7 based on time of day and changes in the source database, and pushing it forward. We applied power to the Sun and the Linux boxes, they came up, and they've stayed up without a hiccup ever since. That's been, let's check the uptimes: 143 days. And that's by no means any kind of a record or something special; it's just what you expect from a decent Unix operating system. It stays up until you take it down again or something happens to the power. People who use NT seem to have, um, different expectations.
