The M6 shutter, viewfinder, wind, heck everything except the meter is based
on production methods based in the 50s and 60s. I have read the reviews when
the M3 and M4 were introduced and everyone admired its modular construction.
It was very advanced and suited the production methods of the time, labour
was inexpensive and materials were expensive. Now the reverse is true, it is
labour that is expensive and materials inexpensive. When you see photos of
the works, you see a great many workers. In pictures of their CNC machines
you do not see automated raw material loading features etc. It all comes
down to a bad pun " Many (expensive) hands make Leica work".
