There are two notches.  The one above is for f/5.6, I believe, and the
bottom one for f/11.  If the object is in focus within the notches, it will
be in focus at that f-stop.

No, it's the opposite.  The notch on top is wider and indicates the
depth-of-field at f11, which the notch on the bottom is very narrow and
indicates the d-o-f at f5.6.
