Paul:

My experiences with the 80/1.4 are that it is remarkably sharp in the =
center 70% of the format at full aperture. It is very sensitive to =
focusing accuracy, however, on closer objects (like head and shoulder =
portraits) on which the DOF if extremely shallow. Look again at your =
chromes with a good loupe and see if your subjects have any sharp parts =
about them or are they uniformly soft.

Both the 75/1.4 M and 80/1.4 R 'luxes are superb performers at full =
aperture in general but not particularly flat of field (watch the =
corners).

Good luck.....great lens for people!

Just got back a roll of Kodachrome 200 shot using my latest =
acquisition, the 80mm F1.4.

I used the lens wide open and found the results a bit soft, is this =
typical for this lens? Presumably, stopping down will sharpen things up?

Is this also the case with the 75mm Summilux-M ?
  Cheers,
  Paul.
