Subject: [Leica] Speaking of Leica at NY Photo Expo

I posted this question originally to Akhil, who strongly suggested I ask the
entire group:

So here is a (potentially) silly question from a user of both M-mount and
LTM cameras:

WHY DOESN'T LEICA MAKE ALL THEIR RF LENSES IN LTM, AND SUPPLY ADAPTORS?
This would make them universally usable on cameras from both systems, and
might, in effect, head off some of the upstart activity from Cosima et al.

For example, I might be a bit more tempted to spend the extra money on Leitz
optics if I could use them with all my interchageable-lens RF cameras.
Creating a very limited supply of lenses, and then not all the most
desirable optics, in LTM is more frustrating than helpful.

For those more technically adept than I: are there significant design
limitations in NOT producing all the lenses in LTM? It the tooling for LTM
that much more expensive?

Sincerely,
Jim Shulman
