I prefer transparent aluminum, but it will be 10+ years before its invented.

For shame. Glass is so fragile. I think flexible diamond substrate is the 
only way to go. If we can build space elevators out of it, why not use it 
for film too? 

Oops, we haven't built space elevators yet? Um, hmm, what century have I 
stopped into this time?
