I'd guess that he was just clueless, not jealous.  Let's face it: someone who
knows nothing about Leicas is not going to be impressed by their appearance.
And fewer and fewer people know anything about Leicas, unfortunately.  Of
course, that happens to be one of the advantages to Leicas, also--since they
look like something Grandpa left you in his will, nobody even takes notice when
you start shooting pictures with them.
