When I first started trying to decide what Leica equipment to buy, I tried a
used Summicron with the focusing tab. It worked very well & I liked the
separate hood. I have since purchased two Summicron 50's. A current version
with the built-in hood that I mainly use on my M6, and a Dual Range with a
12585 hood on my M4. The current 50 has a larger body & wider gripping area,
so the tab does not seem to be as necessary (to me) as it was with the older
style. I will admit again, that's only having tried one with the tab at the
store, not actually using it in the field. It's also extremely sharp. 

I find myself, however, wanting to use the Dual Range any time I need that
focal length, whether its with the M6 or M4, even though I can only use it
with the M6 down to 1 meter. That Dual Range just has a nicer look, both on
film and on the camera itself, as both of my cameras are chrome. I also like
the deep scalloped focusing ring on it better than either a focusing tab or
wider body.

Why not call the people who would do that? Or email them. Sherry Krauter 
might be able to do it. I love the focus tab on my 35 Summilux ASPH. I 
would like one on the 50mm lens I eventually will buy. I would also like a 
new version, so this is a topic I would be interested in. Of course, we 
could hope if they ever come out with a 50 Summilux ASPH, that it will have 
the tab. :-)
