Subject: [Leica] RE: Shutter state for storage

If you do leave your M6 shutter cocked when you store it, you should turn
the shutter speed dial to B (on the classic) or OFF (on the TTL) to make
sure the meter is turned off. Otherwise you can run down the batteries if
something in the bag partially depresses the shutter.

I learned this lesson the hard way and ran down a nearly new set of
batteries in a day.

On a related topic: although the M6 is rugged, and you don't need to obsess
about it, you should check to see that the battery compartment lid is tight
about once a week, or whenever you have subjected the camera to vibration.
The lid likes to unscrew itself.
