Use some good solvent like ROR, a chamois, microfiber cloth, underwear, or all of the above. If the lens is really dirty, use ROR, breath, spit, and a chamois (or underwear), and scrub like hell. Then polish with a microfiber cloth. If the lens is not too dirty, breath on it and scrub it with a microfiber cloth. Lenses made from the 60's on have a really hard coating. It's an ion deposit (molecular bond). Short of sandpaper, you will not be able to damage the lens. If you are one of those folks that put their equipment on a pedestal and are afraid to touch it and if you are faint at heart, do not (I repeat... do not) ever watch a Leica technician clean your lens. Your beneficiaries will benefit greatly. Leica lenses. Keep-em clean and use-em. Jim PS... don't do this with old lenses. Old lenses have a somewhat soft coating and you can cause "cleaning marks" with rough treatment. Not so with modern lenses.
