DX coding is a simple set of codes on the film canister designed to be
read by the camera to provide film speed, type and latitude information
so that the camera can set the metering automatically. It's fairly crude
and most cameras only read the film speed, but works reasonably well.

Since the codes are implemented by a set of little silvered patches and
the sensor to read them is a simple set of contact fingers which checks
for continuity and resistance, you can change the code according to the
DX schema using a set of stick-on silver patches. There are several
suppliers of these coding kits, which include the full DX pattern codes,
so you can adjust the film speed any way you want.
