It's because focussing on a ground glass (in the SLR) gets harder the dimmer the image. Also the split image focus aid on many SLR screens has a very short effective base line--too short to focus accurately enough to reliably position the shallow in-focus region that you have when using a lens wide-open. >>Also, "best suited to wide angle pics..." - does this mean that the RF isn't suited to telephoto lenses ? Again, why is this so ? Is it due to the 'limited' rangefinder distance (58mm is it ? ) ? Two problems really. 1) the fixed rangefinder baseline and 2) the ever smaller framelines that you get with telephoto lenses. I personally find I can only use my 135mm lens on my M6 indoors. In most interior lighting I have to open the lens to f3.5, and I just cannot focus it accurately enough to place the region of focus. On the other hand, no problems with the 90mm lens indoors--the 90 is a great focal length for portraits. Mark Davison
