In terms of my personal work, I've gone digital for colour (a great =
pleasure after printing Cibachrome for 25 years) but will continue to =
use darkroom for black and white for the foreseeable future, as I think =
I can still do a little better than inkjet output.

(I've also switched to shooting colour neg film for my personal work =
because the extra latitude compared to most slide films results in =
better scans.)

As far as my professional output is concerned (mostly reproductions of =
old photographs), it's digital all the way, except maybe a few very high =
quality exhibit prints from excellent black and white negs.

Why the switch to digital?

1. For colour, a great deal more control over colour balance, =
saturation, contrast, exposure, etc., etc. Also repeatability- and, as =
someone else said, once you get rid of those dust spots and scratches =
they're gone forever.

2. For the old photos, the reasons in item one- in spades- plus greatly =
improved productivity.

John Poirier
