Are you shocked to learn that Dr. Blacktape has the obvious answer your problem? BLACK TAPE! Dr. Blacktape just used the black plastic electrical tape to solve the same problem with his Nikon 105 2.5. With the shade taped in the extended position the lens can safely be placed in your bag front element down. No need for lens caps. No need for collapsible shades. Just get out that black tape - the LUGers answer to grip tape. ;-)
