Maybe the shop you visited mainly cater to foreign tourists or specialises in collectors´items, Leicas with odd serial numbers etc. After all you have some of the World´s most dedicated Leica collectors in Japan. Before going to Japan you should have checked out the web site: http://photojpn.org There you will get proper information on where you find the lowest camera prices in Japan. And, believe me, new Leica equipments can be bought over the counter in Japan a lot cheaper than anywhere else. In my job I travel extensively around the World including the States and I still end up buying my Leicas in Tokyo. I simply don´t want to be ripped off! Claes
