The Canadian is a bit smaller than the German? Are there any optical performance differences? Thanks... Now//. Here we go...As a fountain pen "nut" - which is to say user/acquirer for the past 30 years: MBs tend to leak, as has been noted, and they are godawful ostentatious... Pelikan's are, in some ways, the Leica Ms of the pen world - No flash, most people don't know what they are, truly great writing performance - flexible nib, good ink flow....great in low light.. :-) Omas makes beautiful writing instruments, some nice nibs, no leakage...high price.. Parker? I hate to say it, but as much as I love the look of the late model Duofolds, their performance is often lacking.. Waterman? Come on! Leaky. Erratic. Over all...Fountain pens do get your hands and - at some point - your clothes inky, but there is no smoother modern writing instrument, and nothing to give you a better sense that you are, indeed, writing.... Now, back to Leicas.......(And, by the way, since getting back into photography in a fairly serious way, I haven't had any money to spend on fountain pens..:-)) -----Original Message----- From: owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us [mailto:owner-leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us]On Behalf Of Buzz Hausner Sent: Thursday, June 10, 1999 7:47 AM To: 'leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us' Subject: RE: [Leica] Complimentary Anachronisms Buzz Hausner wrote: Leica & Omas. Does Omas have any special user-qualities? Perhaps better available-light writing, silence etc? Unobtrusive writing could be an advantage to journalists.... Bernard Well, Bernard, its sort of like comparing a Leica to a Nikon. Omas pens write beautifully, are unobtrusive, and do not send any special signal to the public. Other pens, especially the M*** B****, are large and (to me) sluggish, and speak loudly to the world of their owner. Thus, the Omas permits me to slip through the world discretely recording my impressions. Fortunately, Omas is not a unique "niche" product, one may choose from many other fine recording instruments. Regarding journalism, I will defer to our dear colleague B.D. Colen who is a journalist and really CAN write.
