If every lens is stored and used with the lens hood mounted , (the largest one possible) then the front element is well protected. One should not use a lens without a hood in any case. All you need then, is a small blower brush to keep the dust off. The only reason to use a filter, is to colour correct, E.g. a warming filter for colour film, or the trusty medium yellow (or red if one feels heroic at the time), for B & W. Horst Schmidt.
