I am one on this list who generally advocates shopping at your friendly
local Leica dealer. I patronize a small shop in a nearby town and get the
same price and selection, and much better service than I would get at a
large city store or mail-order establishment. Having said that, I would
also urge that you pay attention to the tax situation in New York City where
one pays both a state and city tax which add up to, what?, 8 & 3/4% or some
such? A New York City resident can correct this impression. Having said
THAT, many members of the list have wonderful things to say about Tamarkin
and a very few don't.

One thing is certain, virtually all shops will offer the same price on NEW
gear...in my experience used gear varies in price more from shop to shop
than location to location. For used gear, you may wish to post your wants
on the LUG to see what pops up at what price. Etiquette dictates this post
be made on Fridays, your local time.
