The lens has been especially designed (with the neccersary in built ND filtration) such that the negative is not overexposed, and although the front element seems to be plastic, it is in fact a newly developed polymer able to withstand higher temperatures than even pyrex glass (as used in previous Leica optics). This special lens is destined for use on the forthcoming space shot to record the eclipse and I believe there were only 10 units made. Congratulations on owning a forthcoming piece of history. If you wish to send it back, the address is: NASA, Cape Carnival, Game for a Laugh, Anything-gos, Mine's a pint!
