Subject: [Leica] Rare 35 Summicron?

A friend of mine thinks he has a rare Summicron 35. It is th 8-lens type,
serial no 1997685. The lens is all black, with "unusual black painted lens
mounting flange", just like the one Jim Lager describes on page 158 (picture
down left). Some brass can be seen on the lens mounting flange, so it is not
chrome under the black paint.
My friend wonders, if this lens is worth more, if he will trade it? Scale
engravings are in white and red.
