Some years ago I had extensive dealings with Sumitomo Electric, a vendor of
GaAs wafers to AT&T Bell Laboratories. In a social setting I asked
Sumitomo's charming sales rep, "What is the relationship between Sumitomo
Electric, Sumitomo Chemical and Sumitomo Bank ?" Without missing a beat, she
responded, "The same as between General Electric, General Motors, and
General Dynamics!
Interestingly, she left out General MacArthur.
