Sal said that Jim once took 10 bodies with him on an assignment in Egypt and returned with only one in working order. He couldn't afford to work without confidence in his equipment's mechanical abilities on lengthy trips away from Geographic's repair facilities. Conversely, he loves the glass and prefers it to all others. A high percentage of his photographs in "Eye of the Beholder" were made with Leicas. However, he made the switch to Nikons before Leica brought out more dependable bodies which could withstand the heavy use and abuse typical of his demanding assignments. Best regards -- Mike
