Jeff,
I've used a Sony Multiscan 17sf II for about 2 and a half years.  I checked
a lot of monitors and talked to a lot of computer geeks and this was the one
that seemed best.  I've never regretted my decision.
I don't know if you can get a consensus on monitors the way you would on the
USR Courier modem but I think most people would rate Sony monitors very
highly.
