The 12585 hood was for both 50mm and 35mm lenses, and so the 12538 (plastic replacement for the 12585) could also be used on both lenses---thus necessitating the carrying of only one hood (either a 12585 or a 12538), not two different ones (12585/12538 plus 12524). And of those two, by the way, the 12585, being metal, is the superior. Alternatively (if you want to store the hood in reversed position on the 35mm lens and so use the 14033 lens cap over it, as is done with the 50mm Summicron), because the 12538 hood is plastic, I am told it's possible to cut out an appropriate notch in the hood's outer perimeter to accommodate the lens's protruding focusing tab (the 50mm lens has a long enough barrel so that its focusing tab does not interfere with the hood when stored in reversed position). I hope that helps, Art Peterson - ----Original Message Follows---- From: WILLIAM CALDWELL <sneeker@erols.com> Reply-To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us To: leica-users@mejac.palo-alto.ca.us Subject: Re: [Leica] Lens Caps and Filters Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 06:58:10 -0500 SNIP -- thibault collin wrote: > I have to summicrons, 35 and 50 that went with 14268 caps. > I have the followin problems : > i) when I use the hood (12524 and 12538), I have to remove it to put > the caps. I therefore always have to carry hoods in my pockets ... SNIP -- Thib, The 14033 plastic cap fits over the 12538 Hood (plastic) reversed for storage on the f/2 50mm Summicron (as it does the earlier 12585 Hood (metal)). I do not have a 12524 Hood for my f/2 35mm, so I do not have an answer for you on that one.
