Subject: [Leica] 35/1.4 Asph vs 50/1 Noct

I was browsing the lens test database at www.photodo.com, trying to
figure out if I could make head or tail of the results.

I compared the results from the 35/1.4 Asph with the 50/1 Noct. What
with all the raving about the 35/1.4 Asph, and how wonderful Leica's new
lens designs are,I was a bit surprised to see that the Noct actually
beats or meets the 35 at all apertures. It even meets the 35 with both
at maximum aperture.

Weighted MTF for 35 mm: f1.4 0.54, f2 0.65, f2.8 0.75, f4 0.75,
f8 0.83
Overall Score 35mm: 3.8
Weighted MTF for 50 mm: f1 0.53, f1.4 0.61, f2 0.66, f2.8 0.73, f4 0.80,
f8 0.85
Overall Score 50mm: 4.2

Does real use bear out these results? Is the noct really that good, even
compared to the 35/1.4 Asph?

Does this seem to indicate that the Noct is already so good that Leica
is unlikely to ever replace this design with perhaps some new Noct Asph?
