lasersoft's silverfast for the nikon 2000 is kick-butt  - wonderful, and
worth the $500

Nikon made a great scanner but...

the nikon software is only OK for b/w --

for color, it's very hard to use the nikon software hard to grab the
controls,

with silverfast the control is wonderfully easy

plus the ice function, takes no extra time in scan time, vs. the nikon
where it seems to double the scan time
