The Leica M cameras have no 40mm framelines and the 28mm lens brings up the wrong frame lines (perhaps the 90 does too) though these can be adjusted if you pay a repairman enough... The current Kobalux/Avenon/Pasoptik lenses from Japan, (21mm and 28mm) were originally made in M as well as Leica Screw Mount (LTM) but seem not to be available as such now. All LTM lenses can be adapted to fit and work on the M6 camera with one of 3 similar adapters. Each one screws onto the rear of the lens and keys in one of the 3 frameline positions of the camera, i.e. 28 + 90, 35 + 135, and 50 + 75. These adapters are available new (from Japan) for around half the cost of the old genuine Leitz ones. Buy the right one and any old Leica lens or other (and there were loads of other manufacturers for Leica fit lenses) should/will work. Having said all that, some would argue that the 'raison d'etre' of purchasing a Leica is to use the finest optics available so you may wish to save up for a genuine Leitz/Leica lens, they start at quite reasonable prices.
