A couple of years back E6 final rinse was called "stabilizer" and contained
formaldehyde. C41 stabilizer still does. Formaldehyde is very damaging to
plastic; best to never expose plastic reels to it. I've always avoided
putting any reels, plastic or stainless, in any final rinse including
photo-flo, since that would require very thorough washing before re-use.
Photo-flo, other wetting agents, and final rinses containing formaldehyde
in trace amounts are detrimental to developers.
