I've tackled this problem by fabricating a handrest on the front of the camera, much like the grips that are molded into modern SLRs.  I use "Sculpy", a plastic clay - first configured while it's soft, then hardened in the oven.  Instead of attaching it permanently, I use spare camera vinyl, which you can buy from International Microtools or other camera parts suppliers, and tape it in place.  Works great - balances my R5 with a heavy lens like the 80 Summilux.
