That's a really good question. Because working outside the box makes money for small companies. Because photographers need something else. For the same reason ALPA came out with that monster. For the same reason Contax breaks into MF. It's fun, a chance to do something cool, makes money. Not billions, maybe, but some camera manufacturers actually enjoy what they do.
