Hey! Wait a minute! I like peeling paint!
Now, I admit, photographing drying paint is a bit tedious, but peeling paint
has a certain, Je ne sais quoi- a certain panache!
Seriously, I think that Smith's essay on the tragedy of Minimata, Japan, for
example, could have been no less heart rending had it been done with a
disposable camera. We see the images- and I for one could not tell you what
he used if my life depended upon it; here the content, and vison of the
photographer greatly outdistances the means used to capture it. I think that
quite a few would have been able survive.
